etnies has always been at the forefront of the sustainability discussion within the skateboarding industry. Since the beginning, Pierre-André Senizergues (owner) acted towards the sustainability of its business to preserve the planet we skate on. In the 90’s, he already thought and built the etnies headquarters with only recycled materials, and put no less than 616 solar pannels on its roof – plus it is skateboard shaped.
More recently, etnies has further compounded its ethical values with the project: “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree”.
How does it work: etnies proudly stands with Trees For The Future (a non-profit organisation) designing the “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree” project to be simple for us to get involved in international reforestation while we shop. For every pair of etnies Jameson 2 eco purchased, one tree will be planted with the organisation (as a representation of our support and participation). The shoe has also been created using recycled bike tires and rubber gloves in the outsoles and plastic bottles in the making of their PET shoe laces.
The “Buy a shoe, Plant a Tree” project has been in action since 2011, and to this day, they have planted over 1.8 million trees and the etnies forest now spans on three continents.
The goal: To plant two million trees by 2020, which is where you enter the play.
If you want to get involved in the world’s reforestation efforts and reduce your carbon footprint while rocking some of the best skate shoes in the industry, get yourself a pair of etnies jameson eco 2.
And remember… skateboards come from trees!
